FAQ about oral surgery
What is bone augmentation?
What is a sinus lift?
A sinus lift is a surgical procedure that raises the floor of the sinus in the upper jaw to enable bone grafting and the placement of implants. The procedure is painless and performed under local anesthesia.
There are two types of sinus lifts:
Small Sinus Lift – a less invasive procedure for patients with minor bone loss (1-2 mm). It is performed simultaneously with implant placement and takes about 30 minutes.
Large Sinus Lift – a more complex procedure for larger bone loss (up to 4 mm). If there is insufficient bone, implant placement is delayed for 6 to 8 months to allow for healing. The procedure lasts up to one hour.
What is gingivectomy?
Are all oral surgical procedures done under anesthesia?
Yes, all oral surgical procedures at our clinic are performed with local anesthesia, whether it involves tooth extraction, cyst removal, or bone grafting.
I’ve been recommended to have a tooth extracted – do I need an oral surgeon?
Although teeth are designed to last a lifetime, they are often lost, particularly due to severe damage. When a tooth cannot be saved, it must be removed.
If the extraction is straightforward, the dentist will perform it. However, for more complex procedures, such as extracting impacted teeth or those with complicated roots, an oral surgeon is needed. Local anesthesia will be used to ensure the procedure is pain-free.
